"Strengthening Local Food Systems in Appalachia"
A Regional Gathering
Abingdon, VA, Oct. 29-30, 2014
The App Fellows, host communities including Appalachian Sustainable Development, ACENet, Community Food Alliance, and the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, and representatives of more than 25 community groups working on local food systems throughout Appalachia, joined together Oct. 29-30 to share their work and learn from each other.
Participants created a "Lay of the Land", mapping work along the value chain in each Appalachian state and connecting the dots to the great work each is doing throughout the region, identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration, share resources, and develop messaging and communications to broaden their efforts and increase support in communities.
Host communities shared the work they are doing in Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, and West Virginia to strengthen value chains and support local food systems, and participants enjoyed digging deeper and building relationships in breakout sessions and open spaces.
